Can I be of Service?

Schools and employers don't want people who just have good grades. They want good people that do good things that also happen to get good grades ~K.H. Ackroyd~

Project AngelFaces
Thanks so much to all those who made it out to help us out in our booth today! Thanks to your help and support, we were able to reach 1000 more people in the community about the powerful tastiness of cactus fruit: the bone builder! We shared knowledge, and 30 lbs of Prickly Pears, or "Tuna" as I learned today they are referred to in the Latin American community. Delicious goodness!

Four Days Running

Four Days Running... the Isle of Wight Challenge

The 29th April 2011 is a significant date in history, not only will the UK celebrate Prince William marrying Kate Middleton but a group of intrepid and slightly bonkers British people will start a four-day run around the Isle of Wight, an island of the south coast of England. And all this for charity.

The route is 100KM long and goes through quaint villages, across fields, over streams, along sandy beaches, following clifftop tracks stopping at famous landmarks. Each day the team will run roughly 25KM stopping at the odd village pub on route and camping overnight. The circular run starts and ends in the north of the island in the harbour town of Cowes.

Last year the group ran a cross-country route, 99KM long, from London to Brighton and raised approx £6,000 with kind donations made on route from people passed on route. (Images from London to Brighton 2010). The money was raised for a charity called CASPA, which supports children and young people (and their families) with autism and aspergers. CASPA provides after-school clubs, advice and support the likes of which can't be found anywhere else. The club is funded through donations and small subscription fee, without which it would not be able to survive.

So this April / May Bank Holiday Weekend, the run starts to raise some important funds to keep the important classes and support that CASPA provides... plus it's great fun too! The Isle of Wight is a unique and fantastic location that will set the runners many challenges, but, once conquered the team have their sights set on an even bigger challenge for 2012 - to run the entire length of Hadrian's Wall.
